Rock Art Horses

9" x 12" watercolor

Happy Friday the 13th everyone. Don't be superstitious, it's just nonsense.

More rock art today. I can't tell you how much fun these are to do. I lightly sketch in where my main horse is going to go, then proceed to paint with a limited palette of colors. After the paint is dry, I develop the main horse focal point and then "find" more horses in the surrounding area. Some of these paintings come out better than others, but it's always fun and always surprising.

I am building up a supply of these rock art paintings then I'll put a few on ebay and etsy.

Thanks Suzanne, Chris, and Tiglizzy. I appreciate you stopping by and commenting. It makes painting a less solitary exercise.

Caren you do primitive beautifully! I like layering you are doing and the texture. What's the biggest you've done of this technique? Won't it be cool super large?

Erika, the biggest I've done of this technique is 11x14. I actually have a plan to do some bigger ones, and one of my New Year's resolutions was to do a big painting at least once a month. Big to me is 16x20, but I acknowledge that 16x20 is not all that big. I really, really should do something big. Thanks for asking.
